한국 고등학교
1학년 재학중에
반크의 사이버
외교관 교육을
받고
얼마
되지 않아
미국에 유학
오게 됐어요.
미국에
오자마자
2,000명이
넘는 학생이
재학중인
학교에 다니게
됐고,
반크
활동을 쭉
이어보고자
“Friends
of Korea”
클럽(반크
해외 동아리)을
만들기로
결심했답니다.

Friends
of Korea
동아리의
기틀을 마련하고자
작은 노력부터
기울이기
시작했어요.
수업시간에
한국 이야기로
관심을 끌고
복도 진열장에
한국 물건을
전시하는
걸로 시작.
아무것도
없는 저희학교에
씨앗을 뿌리기
시작했답니다
그런
노력에도
불구 하고
어느날은
같은 스쿨버스
타는 한
친구는 이렇게
묻더라구요.
“너네
나라는 무슨말써?
일본말?”
또
다른 친구는
이렇게 “한국?
거기가 어디지?
무슨 나란가?”.
전 너무
당황해서
얼굴이 빨개진
채로, 눈물을
머금고 열심히
설명해야
했어요.
그리곤
이래선 안되겠단
생각이 들어
무작정 부교장
선생님께
찾아 갔답니다.
처음부터
일이 그렇게
쉽게 풀린건
아니었어요.
클럽을 담당해
주실 선생님을
구해야 했고,
어느정도
클럽 인원이
모여야 했어요.
아이들의
관심을 끌기위해
포스터,
학교
방송등을
하나하나
찾아가면서
일을 진행시켜야
했답니다.
하지만
저희
학교에선
벌써부터
변화의 물결이
일고 있어요.
아이들이
Friends
of Korea
클럽에 대해
이야기하고
한국어를
배우기 위해
인터넷 싸이트를
찾는 답니다.
무관심하던
아이들도
태권도,
삼성회사
같은 “made
in Korea”
를 보면
흥미로워
하며 이것저것
묻는 답니다.
전
하루하루
이런 작은
변화들을
피부로 느끼며
언젠간 세계가
변화될 수
있다는 자부심을
가지고 살고
있어요.
반크의
해외 한인
유학생,
더
나아가 650만
모든 해외
한국동포
여러분.
가족
여러분 하나하나의
조그만 노력이
사람들의
의식을 변화
시키고,
그 결실은
결국 한국인
뿐만 아니라
세계인들에게
큰 영향을
미칠수 있답니다.
친구들이
한국에 대해
조금 더
알아 줬으면..
하는 바램이
이렇게 큰
결실을 가져오게
됐어요.

정확히
알지
못하는
나라에서
도전해보지

Hello everyone
in VANK
I’m Saran Kim. I’m
Junior of Clarkston High School.
Let
me tell you about my story briefly.
When I had taken the VANK-education
for being a cyber diploma,
I was
a freshman of Myongdeok girls’ High
School in Korea. Currently, I’m going
to Clarkston High School which over
2000 students are going, I decided to
make the “Friends of Korea” club in
my school.
At first, I tried
to take small efforts to make the basic
conditions of my school for the club.
Through talking about Korea in my
World History class, displaying Korean
stuff in the hall way
and so on..
I just started to seed for spreading
Korean culture.
Although I tired
to make even small differences in my
school, one day,
my friend who was
in my school bus asked, “What language
do you guys use? Japanese?
Speak
something!”.
The other asked,
“Korea? Is it like country?”.
At
that time, I was so embarrassed, so
I was about to cry.
But I tried
to explain to them as much as I can.
And
then, I thought this situation cannot
be happened , at least if I make a club
of Korea in my school.
As soon as
I decided to make one, I met a vice-president
of the school
and finally I could
start to do “SOMETHING”
It
was not easy to do “SOMETHING” at
first. First of all, I had to ask to
one of teachers
who would be responsible
for my club.
Secondly I couldn’t
guess how many students in my school
would be members of the club.
That’s
kind of facts made me worried. But I
was doing right thing and I made many
fliers,
poster and announcements.
However,
in my school, there were already waves
of differences among the students.
They
started to pay attention for ‘Korea’
and talked about ‘Friends of Korea’
club.
Some of them tried to find
Korean website for learning Korean words.
Although the kids were indifferent before,
they are asking now about Taegwondo
or Samsung which are sort of ‘made
in Korea’ things.
Day by day
I feel that students in my school are
changing a little more and more.
And
some day in the future, I strongly believe
that people in all over the worlds will
open their minds.
Ladies and
Gentlemen in VANK and farther more all
of Koreans.
Your small efforts can
make people change and the results will
attract people in all over the world.
My small hope that more of my friends
know about Korea more made me do all
of things.
Sometimes I’m regret
that I couldn’t start this earlier.

Keep in mind that you can make
your people be friendly with Korea at
anytime.
Through your trying you
can feel the difference.
Moreover
you should know that Koreans can come
closer to the worlds’ people for you!
Why
don’t you start right now in all over
the worlds? Especially, in unknown countries
or the countries their people don’t
know about Korea at all.
I believe
that the leader of “Friends of Korea”
would be the leader of Korea.
Those
belief are the power of Korea!
