Debra Strand from
Lakewood Middle School

Hi. My name is Debra Strand at Lakewood Middle School in North Lakewood, USA. My Language Arts class usually has 28-30 students, half girls and half boys, who are 11 and 12. My Korean pen pal is Sunhee Lee and we have had two wonderful years of exchanging pen pal letters.
My students love having Korean pen pals. They brag about having international pen pals. This bridge opens up my students to paying attention about where Korea is located, and they listen more attentively to world news. Many of my students do not have internet athome so we write and mail letters. The kids are so excited when they receive a letter from Korea and usually bring it in to share with their classmates. It seems letter writing has become a lost art in our increasingly high tech world.
I am so happy to be pen pals with Sunhee for their third year. I know seeds of curiosity are being planted with each letter about other cultures, other places, other young people across the globe. E-palsclassroom exchange with VANK will be a great opportunity to understand Korea.

Northam senior high school

Hello, My name is Jason Hinton. I am in my 5th year of teaching. I teach Accounting and Computing subjects. I enjoy using digital cameras, webpage design and graphic design using Photoshop. I am married and I have two sons, Jake aged 6 and Max aged 3.
It is great to talk with my students about the friendships they are building with students in Korea. The friendship packages we have received are wonderful.
VANK is very well organized, helpful and enthusiastic. The Classroom Exchange Program has been great for my students to learn about life in another country. VANK has been very welcoming and has encouraged me to continue with the Program.
