반크는 지속적인 일본해 표기 웹사이트를 검색하던 중 지난 2007년 3월 18일에 유엔산하 국제기구인 유엔식량농업기구(FAO)의 홈페이지에서 동해를 일본해로 단독 표기하고 있는 것을 발견하였습니다. 유엔식량농업기구의 홈페이지의 국가 정보 및 지도 서비스 페이지의 한국과 일본의 지도에 동해가 일본해로 표기되어 있었습니다. 또한, 지도의 주석에는 ‘지도에 표기한 이름과 경계 문제는 유엔의 공식적 승인과 입장을 의미하고 있지 않다'라고 표기해 두었습니다.
이에, 반크에서는 이메일을 통하여서 동해표기의 정당성을 알렸고, 오늘 2007년 3월 23일에 확인할 결과 일본해 표기를 삭제한 것이 확인되었습니다.
